Recording Session for the Tribute Album to The Mississippi Sheiks
Avast Studio in Seattle, Washington
November 10, 2008

Bruce participated in one of several recording sessions that were held for a tribute album to the Mississippi Sheiks. Other artists contributing to the album include Kelly Joe Phelps, Bill Frisell, Van Dyke Parks, John Hammond, Ry Cooder, The Sojourners, Ndidi Onukwulu, Del Rey, Madeleine Peyroux and Robin Holcomb. The project is produced by Steve Dawson.

We arrived at the studio at about 7pm and left around 11pm. The song that Bruce chose to cover is called, Honey Babe Let The Deal Go Down. Instruments on the track are: guitar (Bruce), drums (Matt Chamberlain), keyboards (Wayne Horvitz), bass (Keith Lowe) and slide guitar (Steve Dawson). The CD is expected to be released in mid-2009 on the Black Hen Music label.

Steve Dawson's blog account of the Cockburn session is here.

The rowdy chorus was sung at this microphone. I was asked to participate. Was this wise?
